 Nusmata (Jarrod Saunders)

Northwest coast Native carver Jarrod Saunders is a third-generation artist. Born in the Nuxalk Nation (Bella Coola, Canada), he has been carving for over 20 years. Jarrod was given the traditional name 'Nusmata' by his Grandfather and master, Silyas Saunders.


Armed with an array of inventive modern resources, Jarrod has expanded his creative drive into graphic design, clothing, and stretched glicee prints with the intention of making first nations art accessible to more people. Having trained under multiple masters, his contemporary style is modern, colourful, and all his own.

Jarrod now resides in Victoria, BC (unceded WS'ANEC', Lkwungen, and Wyomilth territories).
